Midweek Momentum Newsletter: how vision and mission can more than double your annual growth

As January wraps up, you may be making changes in your business based on the goals and projects you set at the beginning of the year. It's an exciting time but...

Surprise! Most people don’t love change. We are creatures of habit and, other than changing the channel when an annoying show comes on, humans like being able to predict what's coming next.

The challenge is, as an entrepreneur, change is the name of the game.

So how do you get your team, your clients, and your community to embrace innovative change and process improvements? It is doable and can even be used to build brand loyalty and make sales while increasing your engagement and making your relationships stronger.

In this issue we’ll cover:

  • Getting meta by announcing your announcement
  • Why it's better to "build in" than "buy in"
  • How a software change is connecting us with our community
  • A Mantra to keep you connected to your community

Using Change to Create Community

Did you know your brain is hardwired to resist change and interprets it as a threat?

It's true, which is why, as a certified Change Leadership trainer of the award-winning Vital Smarts Influencer program, our Founder & CEO, Jill McAbe has helped visionaries implement business and marketing changes that have more than 2X their sales. A big part of that is assisting them in rolling out their upgrades in a way that brings their communities on board!

Strategy for Communicating Change

So how can you overcome the human instinct to run from change and get your audience pumped for it? Using your current channels of communication (be they emails, social media, direct messaging, newsletters, or a combination), you can begin reaching out to your community to let them know something new is on the way.

Here's an engagement strategy you can use to begin leading them towards the "big reveal" in your business.

  • Start with a survey, poll or question, “We want to be better and would love your input on these ideas...”, this gives your audience a chance to engage, it's a heads-up something new is coming, and you can learn a lot by listening to your audience, which is the ultimate form of respect.
  • Always signal before changing lanes. This means, don't spring change on anyone. People like advance warning. You may have seen people use the "announce the announcement" strategy. If you're not sure what that means, it's when you tell your community change is coming, and to stay tuned for updates.
    > I explained this a while back in a fun Instagram Reel
    > One of my hero's Daniel Pink, did this on Linkedin!
  • Make your announcement! What's new! Tell us and tell us why you're so excited about it!
  • Continue messaging around your change. It's wise to message about your change more than once. Find relevant ways to talk about your new thing several times! You could explain how you arrived at the decision, let them know the ways you see it making their experience better, and the next one ...
  • Request their feedback. Following up after change by seeking feedback and reactions to the what you've done is a strong and visible sign that you care about who you serve and what they think!

In the 'change biz' you can think of it as being all about “build in” (let people in on the journey) rather than “buy in” (sell people on ideas). By sharing what’s going on in your business and asking for audience feedback along the way, they will feel more invested in what you are doing, which helps to build your community and brand loyalty.

What kind of things should you announce? Here are a few examples;

  • You're ready to go live with a new website
  • You’re launching a new product or service
  • You’ve made changes to an existing product or service

For Example: how we're changing our online provider (from Kartra to System):

We are in the process of moving our entire online platform from our current provider (Kartra) to a new all-in-one provider called Systeme. We love the ease of use for our team, the look of the final product, the affordability, and the user experience for our community.

This is a big undertaking, so change will happen in steps over 3 months. Here's how we're rolling it out.

  • Midweek Momentum (you can see our announcement newsletter here)
  • Emails/Newsletter: (subscribers will get emails about the change in how we send out emails soon!)
  • Website (we've been building a whole new website with a shop page)
  • Member area (The final step is moving over our courses and programs)

We will continue to make announcements and give updates about where we are in the process as we roll out this transition, so there are no surprises.🤯 Watch for an email over the next week that this newsletter will be moving over to Systeme.

You can pique your communities' interest by announcing your planned changes as something exciting, something good for them or something they can get involved in (i.e. feedback). By being up front, you will reduce the frustration (or fear) that normally accompanies change while increasing brand loyalty and sales by keeping them in the know. Change is an opportunity to get your community involved.
